THIS JUST IN! Idris Elba confirmed as Ambush Bug in Suicide Squad 2 // Satire

After initial reports of actor Idris Elba replacing Will Smith as Deadshot in Warner Brothers' Suicide Squad 2 were denied, speculation of who the British actor would portray in the James Gunn helmed film ran rampant. You Don't Read Comics can now confirm Idris Elba will be starring as the character Ambush Bug in the future movie from DC Films.

Debuting in 1982 in issue #52 of DC Comics Presents, Ambush Bug is an obscure hero in the DC Comics staple known for fourth wall breaking humor and the ability to teleport.

"I thought he was green Deadpool, but they've repeatedly told me he's not Deadpool," says Elba of the role. "I've been talking with James about the character and am getting very excited to start shooting. I think the best thing about the movie is how we are interpreting the costume. I'm going to be naked the entire time except for this green body paint. They tell me it looks way better than doing a skin-tight suit."

"The body paint was his idea. Idris refused to do the role unless he got to let his cheeks fly," Gunn said when asked for comment. "I just heard a rumor that he almost did a cameo in the last Pacific Rim movie, but John Boyega refused to do a scene unless Idris wore pants."

Elba is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having supporting roles in both Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and as fan-favorite Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as recently signing on to an adaptation of Archaia's Mouse Guard from 20th Century Fox.

"Honestly I think this comic book stuff is silly and a waste of everyone's time,” says Elba. “I'm just waiting for the wankers at MGM to nut up and cast me as Bond. I have a great idea for a scene where I jump out of a helicopter without pants."

Suicide Squad 2 is set for release sometime in 2021.
