Hasbro Overwatch Ultimate Display / NYTF2019
The cultural phenomenon that is Overwatch has dominated video game since the game's launch in May of 2016. With over $1 billion in sales, a thriving eSports community, and 40 million active players, Blizzard's superhero battle royal has changed the landscape of the medium and genre. With a unique universe full of lore and diverse cast of colorful heroes and villains Overwatch has had the potential to have one of the greatest and wide-reaching toylines of all time. Though several characters have seen success in the high-end Figma line via Good Smile Company, it is only now that an assortment of figures with a more modest price point would be released thanks to the toy heroes at Hasbro.
Dubbed the Overwatch Ultimate Series, Hasbro aims to bring the beloved characters of the beloved game series to life to the 1:12 scale with great detail, possibility, and playability. The initial figures include four single boxed figures, two two-packs, and a larger sized figure. The first single figures released through the Ultimate line include Tracer, Sombra, Lucio, and Blackwatch Reyes (not pictured). The two packs consist of a Mercy and Pharah set, and another that contains Ana and Soldier 76. Finally, the GameStop exclusive Reinhardt figure stands at a massive 8 inches tall and boasts his mighty rocket hammer and barrier shield.
All other figures contain appropriate weapons and effect parts such as Tracer with her pulse pistols or Sombra boasting her rapid-fire machine gun and accessory simulating her hacking ability. Price point wise the standard figures will retail between $19.99-23.99 depending on what outlet you purchase them through, the two-packs have a price point of $39.99-49.99, and the Reinhardt figure will retail for $49.99. As of the time of this writing, the only retailer with a pre-order for these figures is GameStop who project a late April release of the figures.
Hasbro will also be releasing a line of role-play masks based on the game's heroes that will be out sometime in the Fall. The first masks are themed around the sharpshooter Tracer and cyber swordsman Genji.
