Dark Knights: Metal #6 New Justice
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo bring their ‘Dark Crisis’ to its epic conclusion as everything comes to a head within the World Forge and the war rages against Barbatos’ forces in this final issue.
With the help of Hawkgirl and the Lasso of Truth, Wonder Woman travels into the core of the World Forge, returning with Batman and Superman. Arriving dressed in their McGuffin armor made of the 10th metal, Element X, the Trinity endow the rest of the Justice League with armor to bring this final showdown to an end. As Hawkgirl continues to prove her worth, bringing Carter Hall to his senses and causing him to turn on Barbatos, swinging the war in the League’s favor. With the use of Element X the Justice League is able to reverse the damage to the universe and save the day.
Dark Knights: Metal reaches its final issue while carrying on the unapologetic, over the top, fast-paced visceral experience that began last June with Dark Days: The Forge. Reading like a summer Hollywood blockbuster, Snyder and Capullo pull no stops while they drive this epic home with this event. The last few issues have slowed down leading up to this double sized epic conclusion, the repercussions of which will continue to pay off for the foreseeable future of the DC Universe.
While Capullo pencils an all out armageddon for the DC Universe and readers to endure, he repeatedly displays how much fun he had with each page. Capullo brings a sense of sheer misery with his pencils in the depiction of the infected World Forge and Dark Multiverse, displaying the true rotten nature of the darkness. Jonathan Glapion continues to act as Capullo's second hand, bringing his pencils to life with his colors. From Dark Multiverse or Source Wall, Glapion helps Capullo distinguish between each location in both beautiful and horrific fashion. Albeit not in name, Metal #6 lives up to the 'Crisis’ level of finality brought up the DC Universe as everything comes to its destructive end.
Greg and Scott have worked amazingly well since their beginning in 2011 on Batman, Dark Knights: Metal #6 is the perfect end cap to bring their run on Batman to its conclusion, while leaving room for what is still yet to come. As No Justice inches closer, Snyder leaves room, not only for what he has planned in the future, but for the whole DC Universe, even down to mentioning the upcoming Sandman Universe imprint. With more new books coming this June, Metal may be over but this is only the beginning.
